January slide at Hanson Hill
  Watch VideoWatch Video

Low.

That was the word of the day for the January Slide at Hanson Hill in Whitehall on Jan. 30.

Turnout for the event was among the lowest in years, with only an estimated 40 people showing up for the event. Even fewer participated in the actual sledding.

It seemed the only normal low was the temperature, which was hovering in the high 20’s.

The White Lake Optimist Club had warm coco available to help take the chill off sliders and the audience.

The event slid past many to-do lists thanks in part to low snow levels on the hill. Visible grass made an unseasonable appearance at the top of the hill.

The snow on the hill was compact and made for fast race conditions and a couple crashes.

Racers who found there way to the bottom first were treated to a variety of gift certificate prizes.

Among others, winners received gift certificates from the Book Nook and Java Shop, Taco Bell, Subway, Dog and Suds, Pamida, Double JJ, Todd’s Pharmacy and Lipka’s Old Fashion Soda Fountain.

To counter act all the low’s was the high amount of fun had by the kids going feet first, head first and sometimes sideways down Hanson Hill.

The winners in each category are listed below.
